Strength through Unity

Welcome to 33d Armored and Cavalry Association Web Site!

The 33d Armored and Cavalry Association is a non-profit veterans association dedicated to the preservation of the history of the 33d Armored Regiment and the 33d Cavalry Regiment and to support those troopers that wear the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the "Men of War".  Association membership is open to all veterans of all eras who have served in the 33d Tank Battalion, 33d Medium Tank Battalion, 62nd Heavy Tank Battalion, 62nd Tank Battalion, 33d Armored Regiment or 33d Cavalry Regiment.  In recognition of their importance as either a founding unit of the 33d Armored Regiment or as an element of the 33d Armored Regiment are eligible for membership in the 33d ACA for service during the times specified:  3d Armored Regiment (Light)13 Jan 1941 - 8 May 1941), 7th Tank Battalion (7 July 1947 - 30 July 1948), 7th Medium Tank Battalion (30 July 1948 - 1 Dec 1957).

Some of our regiment's units have been sorely neglected by the Associations representing the Divisions or Brigades that they have served with.  The 3d Armored Division Association has been one of the few organizations to recognize all their WWII, Cold War and Desert Storm units.  The 10th Infantry (Mountain) Division Association has failed horribly to document the contributions of the 62d Heavy Tank Battalion or the 62d Tank Battalion to their own history.  The 94th Armored Brigade has failed to document the contributions of the 2/33 Armor and 5/33 Armor to their history at their websites.  Battalions/Squadrons from our regiment has served with the 1st Armored Division, 1st Cavalry Division, 2d Infantry Division, 3d Armored Division, 4th Armored Division, 9th Infantry Division, 10th Infantry Division, 101st Airborne (AIr Assault) Division, 103d Infantry Division, 94th Armored Brigade, 199th Infantry Brigade and 205th Infantry Brigade.  During the the Second World War, our regiment was attached to and fought for six separate divisions and V Corps.  Our units fought beside many units including the 1st Infantry Division, 4th Infantry Division, 9th Infantry Division, 30th Infantry Division, 75th Infantry Division, 82nd Airborne, 90th Infantry Division and the 101st Airborne.  The 1st Infantry Division, the 3d Armored Division and the 9th Infantry Division of the VII Corps were referred to as "The First Team of the First Army" and it was the actions and sacrifices of our regiment that helped the 3d Armored Division earns it's nickname "Spearhead".   Our task forces  and combat teams were integral to the Allies victory in the Second World War and the current Brigade Combat Team system was tested by soldiers from the 1st Bn, 33d Armor during their tenure at Fort Lewis.

Our regiment has seen ROADS, CARS and USARS.  We have been flagged, reflagged, activated and deactivated.  The 33d Regiment even disappeared for a time after the first Gulf War, but the "Men of War" are once again on the line actively serving our nation and the United States Army.   The troopers of the 1st Squadron, 33d Cavalry are now setting the standards for the 3rd Brigade "War Rakkasans" 101st Airborne (Air Assault) to follow.  As the 101st moves from Airborne "Rakkasans" or "Falling Umbrellas" to their new role as air assault in the air cavalry model, the 33d Cavalry will play a key role in moving airborne infantry from parachutes to professionalism.

'Men of War' join together and preserve our rich history and insure that the contributions that you and our regiment have made are preserved.  I am so thankful that our senior battalion had the foresight and wherewithal to document it's rich history at it's website.  If you think that these organizations don't have value and merit, look to the 1st Armored Division veterans and how their voices saved the 1st AD when the Army had selected it for inactivation.  A vigorous and active campaign by the "Old Ironsides" veterans kept their division alive.  The veterans of the 33d Armored and Cavalry can and will make a difference, but it takes your participation and voice to accomplish the mission.

The 33d ACA serves as bridge uniting the past, present and future of one United States Army's finest fighting units, the 33d Armored/Cavalry Regiment.  We eagerly welcome members and prior service of all battalions and squadrons of the 33d Regiment regardless of division, brigade or Corps affiliation, theaters of operation or dates of service.  We are 'Brothers Forever' bound by the honor and history of the "Men of War" and the legendary leadership of our regimental, battalion and squadron commanders.  Soldiers and Tankers of the 1st Battalion 33d Armor; 2nd Battalion  33d Armor "Tiger", 3rd Battalion 33d Armor "Pickles", 4th Battalion 33d Armor, 5th Battalion 33d Armor and Troopers of the 1st Squadron 33d Armor "War Rakkasans", please join us in our efforts to preserve our heritage while serving the needs of those wearing the 'Men of War' today in Germany, Iraq and Kentucky.
