Constituted 13 January 1941 in the Regular US Army as Company B, 3d
Armored Regiment, an element of the 3d Armored Division.
Activated 15 April 1941 at Camp Beauregard, Louisiana.
Redesignated 8 May 1941 as Company B, 33d Armor Regiment.
Transferred 26 June 1944 from 1st Battalion 33d Armored Regiment to 2d
Battalion, 33d Armored Regiment.
Inactivated 10 November 1945 in Germany.
Disbanded 7 July 1947.
Reconstituted 28 May 1948 in the Regular US Army and redesignated as
Company B, 62d Heavy Tank Battalion.
(62d Heavy Tank battalion assigned 18 June 1948 to 10th Infantry
Division).
Activated 1 July 1948 at Fort Riley, Kansas.
Redesignated 15 June 1954 as Company B, 62d Tank Battalion
Reorganized and redesignated 15 February 1957 as Headquarters and
Headquarters Company, 2d Medium Tank Battalion (Patton), 33d Armor;
concurrently, relieved from assignment to 10th Infantry Division,
transferred (less personnel and equipment) from Germany to Fort Polk,
Louisiana, and assigned to 1st Armored Division (organic elements
constituted 11 February 1957 and activated 15 February 1957).
Inactivated 23 December 1957 at Fort Polk, Louisiana.
Redesignated 12 March 1958 as 2d Heavy Tank Battalion, 33d Armor, and
relieved from assignment to 1st Armored Division.
Activated 1 May 1958 in Germany.
Reorganized and redesignated 10 December 1962 as 2d Medium Tank
Battalion, 33d Armor.
Reorganized and redesignated 1 October 1963 as 2d Battalion, 33d Armor,
and assigned to 3d Armored Division. Relieved 16 September 1986 from assignment to the 3d Armored Division
and concurrently assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division. Inactivated 16 October 1986 at Fort Hood, Texas with all personnel
and equipment being transferred to the 3d Battalion, 32d Armor. Activated 16 December 1992 at Fort Knox, Kentucky using personnel and
equipment from the 1st Squadron, 12th Cavalry. Inactivated in 1995 at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
