33d Tank Battalion
Song
There are songs that have been sung
There are stories that have been
told
But as tankers there is only one
to sing
'Tis the one of men of war
And the honors that they hold
And the glories that we evermore
shall bring
Whether
home or far away
We will
serve our country best
And
will always do our duty come what may
Let
the officers and men
Proudly shoulder our green crest
As the
men of war move forward everyday
(chorus)
Roll, roll, roll those
tanks onward
Through the battle we
will roar
Leave the crunchies and
the rest
We are Uncle Sammy's
best
We're the fighting 33d,
the men of war
TUNE: Tramp, Tramp, Tramp
NOTE: After a long search for the song,
Dan Hughes in Houston, Texas; son of Major John W.
Hughes, Jr., Commander, 33d Armor Tank Battalion, Combat
Command B, 3d Armored Division 1955-1958-(now deceased),
provided us with a box of papers and photos which
belonged to his father and there was a memorandum dated
21 November 1956 from Major Hughes to LTC Sedbury,
Assistant Chief of Staff, G1, 3d Armored Division,
confirming a telephone call between the two that day
regarding the 33d Tank Battalion Song and the lyrics
were typed out on the memorandum. Many thanks to Dan
and his mother, Mrs. John W. Hughes, Jr. for providing
this*
